Postdoctoral Fellowship Announcement 2024-25

Main content start

The Meta-Research Innovation Center at Stanford (METRICS) is a research-to-action center focused on transforming research practices to improve the quality of scientific studies in biomedicine and beyond. METRICS fosters multi-disciplinary research collaborations to help produce solutions that increase the effectiveness and value of scientific investigation. By creating multidisciplinary working groups that bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers, METRICS aims to develop a policy-relevant research agenda to improve research quality. METRICS focuses on five critical areas highlighted by a broad range of stakeholders: methods, reporting, evaluation, reproducibility and incentives.

The Center invites applications for postdoctoral fellowship positions in the broad area of meta-research and related fields relevant to the mission of METRICS. The postdoctoral fellowships are expected to start on September 2024 (with +/- 2 month flexibility for exact start date). It will be a 1-year appointment and the possibility of a second year may be considered. The Center provides a competitive stipend, with the exact level to be determined based on applicant qualifications. METRICS postdoctoral fellows will participate in various aspects of the Center’s research and educational initiatives. Fellows also benefit from Stanford University’s highly innovative and creative research environment which supports discovery and innovation. Funding for the fellowship is provided to METRICS from the Office of the Dean of Stanford University School of Medicine.

Given the wide spectrum of meta-research applications that practically cover all fields of science, the research and scholarship background of the future postdoctoral researcher can be diverse in terms of topics within the biomedical, natural sciences, social sciences (including psychology), economics or mathematics/ statistics fields or a combination of them. However, applicants are required to have already some demonstrable track record specifically in meta-research topics in some scientific discipline(s).  Candidates without an existing meta-research track record and demonstrated interest in meta-research will not be considered.

The expected salary range for this position is $73000 to $82000.
