Philip Lavori

Philip W. Lavori is Professor of Health Research and Policy and (Biostatistics) and Professor (by courtesy) of Statistics. He grew up on a small farm in New York City, earned a PhD in Mathematics from Cornell University in 1974, and has served on the faculty at MIT, Harvard, Brown, and since 1992, Stanford. Dr. Lavori directs the Biostatistics Core of the Stanford Cancer Center, and is chair of the Department of Health Research and Policy and co-director of Spectrum, Stanford’s Clinical and Translational Sciences Award. His current interests center on innovative clinical trials design, especially for seamless phase II-III trials, biomarker-guided treatments, point-of-care randomization for comparative effectiveness research, and sequential multiple assignment randomized trials for adaptive treatment strategies.
