José Balsa-Barreiro
José Balsa-Barreiro is a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Dep. Geography, Univ. Santiago (Spain) and a member of CITIES, NYU Abu Dhabi (UAE). Since 2025, he also serves as Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. Bridging the technical and social dimensions of cities, he holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Univ. Coruña (Spain) and Politecnico di Torino (Italy). His international career spans the MIT Media Lab and ETH Zurich, with visiting roles at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. His research explores how urban form shapes human behavior through geospatial analysis, transportation, computational social science. His recent interest in meta-research focuses on advancing methods to evaluate the validity and transparency of urban science.
