James A. Evans

James A. Evans is the Director of Knowledge Lab ([URL DELETED]), and faculty at the Sociology department and the Computation Institute at the University of Chicago. My research uses machine learning and large-scale data to understand the collective system of thinking and knowing, ranging from the distribution of attention to the origin of ideas and shared habits of reasoning. I am especially interested in innovation and the role that social and technical institutions (e.g., the Internet, markets, peer review) play in collective cognition and discovery. Much of my work has focused limits and possibilities in contemporary biomedical science and technology.
